According to the latest report of the Netherlands Observatory of Science and Technology (NOWT), DPI has a very high citation impact: “The Dutch Polymer Institute scores highly, with an impact that is twice the world average”.
DPI has experienced quite a good year in terms of patents and inventions. A total of 27 invention disclosures was submitted in 2007, which is an 80% growth compared to 2006.
The National Research Foundation (NRF) has awarded A-ratings to two researchers from the Faculty of Science, polymer scientist Prof Bert Klumperman and ecologist Prof Dave Richardson. This brings the number of world class scientists at Stellenbosch University (SU) to nine. A-rated scientists are unequivocally accepted by their peers as world leaders in their fields of interest.

We are extremely pleased to inform you that we received today the formal letter of approval of the budget for the Polymer Innovation Programme. The letter is signed by Maria van der Hoeven, Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs.
On December 4, during the Innovation Lecture organised by the Ministry of Economic Afffairs, three innovation programmes have been approved, a.o. the programme of the key area Chemistry. The Polymer Innovation Programme which is a crucial part of this programme, will be executed by the Dutch Polymer Institute and the DPI Value Centre.
The DPI Annual Meeting on the occasion of its 10th anniversary was very successful.
DPI granted its Golden thesis award 2007 to Jan Anton Koster.
Since the beginning of the 2007-2008 academic year Prof. Ulrich S. Schubert has been appointed at the Friedrich Schiller Universität in Jena.

The Gold Medal has been awarded by the International Rubber Conference Organization to Professor Jacques Noordermeer, Programme Chairman of the Rubber Technology Area.
Every two months, ISI Essential Science Indicators Web product lists a new crop of what it calls hot papers in science. Hot papers are selected by virtue of being cited among the top one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) in a current bimonthly period.

Sjaak Elmendorp, vice president product technology and innovation and former programme manager of Engineering Plastics, will on behalf of Avery Dennison take the seat in the programme committee of the Technology Area Functional Polymer Systems.
Avantium Technologies has signed a partnership agreement with the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI). The agreement signifies a strengthening of the recently started high throughput screening programme within DPI.
