Rein Borggreve highlights the long-term value of research at Nationaal Chemisch Erfgoed 2025

Rein Borggreve speaking at Nationaal Chemisch Erfgoed 2025

At Nationaal Chemisch Erfgoed 2025, organised by the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV), DPI CTO Rein Borggreve delivered a clear message: structural investment in knowledge and innovation is essential. In his remarks, he addressed the tension between short-term pressures and the need to invest in R&D – especially in a rapidly changing world.

Research requires patience and money, but brings so much in return. Investing in knowledge is always a good investment – especially in a knowledge economy. Companies won’t survive the long run without it. The world is changing, and new materials are needed. If you don’t invest, others will fill the gap. Cutting R&D might save money short-term, but in the end, you fade away

DPI’s long-term perspective

At DPI, long-term research has been the foundation of our work for over 25 years. We believe that building deep scientific knowledge and forging strong public-private partnerships is essential for real-world impact – from circular plastics to new materials for the energy transition.
