The InReP project – part of the Circular Plastics Initiative (CPI), a collaboration between DPI and ISPT – has released a policy brief urging EU policymakers to adopt robust, innovation‑led frameworks for plastics recycling and circularity.
After several years of coordinated research and innovation, InReP (Integrated approach towards Recycling of Plastics) has published its policy brief, presenting clear recommendations for advancing Europe’s circular plastics system.
Led by a broad international consortium of recyclers, converters, brand owners and knowledge institutes, the project focused on unlocking high-quality recycling routes for the dominant packaging plastics: PE, PP and PET.
The results reflect a long-term, cross-sectoral effort, necessary to address the systemic and technical complexities of plastic recycling. The policy brief is grounded in technical and practical insight, offering realistic, evidence-based input to help shape future regulations.
Key recommendations InRep consortium
- Developing a coherent policy vision to support innovation.
- Establishing a legal basis for packaging standardisation.
- Creating a framework for cascading recycling technologies.
DPI’s involvement
DPI is a founding partner of the Circular Plastics Initiative (CPI) and was closely involved in the InReP project from the outset. This collaboration reflects our commitment to supporting polymer research that informs not only technological progress, but also the wider policy frameworks needed to accelerate the transition to circular plastics.
