Performance Polymers possess superior chemical, mechanical and physical properties, especially beyond ambient conditions. They form the basis of material systems for use at (cyclic or continuous) load bearing conditions. These material systems frequently consist of multi-component mixtures of various polymers, reinforcements and additives.
The Performance Polymers programme supports research on polymeric systems with enhanced performance by combining chemistry/physics, processing and properties, thus covering the whole chain of knowledge. This leads to a better understanding of the "structure versus performance" relationship on all length scales – from molecular to macroscopic. In this way the Performance Polymers programme seeks to create new opportunities to respond to the new sustainability challenges posed to the industrial sectors of automotive (incl. tyres), electronics, oil & natural gas transport and construction.
